Ausbildung vacancy requirement matcher

Every Ausbildung advert prints a short block of requirements, and every line in it is a question you will be asked again at the interview. The Federal Employment Agency's own advice for the cover letter is blunt about how to answer: do not list what you can do, show where you learned it and used it. This tool takes that block one line at a time, asks what you have actually done, and gives you the German sentence to say it with. Where you have nothing, it says so and tells you what to do about it.

The advert text you type and the evidence you pick stay in this tab. Nothing is saved, submitted, put in the address bar or included in analytics. Closing the tab loses the list, so copy it into your draft before you go.

The matcher needs JavaScript. Every requirement type it offers, with its German wording, its evidence options, both sentence patterns and the next action for a gap, is written out further down this page.

Step 1 of 3

Which of these does your advert ask for?

Open the vacancy and find the block of requirements. Employers head itDas bringst du mit,Dein Profil,Wir erwarten von dir,Das solltest du mitbringen orVoraussetzungen. Tap every line that appears there. Skip the ones that do not.

Requirement types in the advert

A line the list above does not cover

Copy it from the advert, in German or in your own words. The matcher does not know what it means, so it gives you the two sentence moves that work for any requirement.

    No advert open yet?

What this tool will not do

It writes no German about you. Every sentence it prints is a pattern with square brackets, and what goes in the brackets is yours. It has no way to check a claim, so it only ever repeats a thing you selected. There is no option in it that asserts a certificate, a level or an experience on your behalf.

It also decides nothing. Whether your school certificate counts as an equivalent German one is answered by the certificate-recognition body of the federal state you will train in, not here. Whether your German is enough is answered by an examiner and by the interview. Whether you get the place is answered by the company. What this tool settles is narrower and still useful: which lines in this advert you can answer with something real, and which you cannot.

The Federal Employment Agency warns applicants about letting an AI write the letter, in one sentence worth keeping: Die KI kennt dich nicht. The AI does not know you. Nor does this page. It knows what you ticked.

How this differs from the requirements guide

The requirements guide covers what you must meet to do an Ausbildung at all: the school qualification, the language level, the visa. Those come from federal rules and are the same whichever advert you open. This tool is about the other list, the one a single employer wrote for a single training place. The two are easy to confuse, and the confusion costs applicants real chances. German law sets no school-leaving qualification for dual training in a company: as Make it in Germany puts it, every company decides for itself what criteria applicants must meet, and many ask for an intermediate certificate. So Guter Hauptschulabschluss in an advert is that company's own criterion, not a national rule.

The two sentence moves that work for any requirement

Both come from the model letter in the cover-letter guide. The first quotes the advert so the reader can see you answered their line. The second turns a task into what it taught you, which is the move that converts a job description into evidence.

    • In Ihrer Anzeige steht, dass …

      Your advert says that …

      From the cover-letter guide

    • Dabei habe ich gelernt, … zu …

      That taught me to …

      From the cover-letter guide

    Every requirement type, in full

This is everything the tool holds, so you can read it without using the tool at all and check that it is telling you the truth. The German under each heading is the wording adverts print. It was read on live Ausbildung adverts on the Federal Employment Agency's own job search on 7 September 2026, and no employer's advert is reproduced here.

    A school-leaving certificate

Guter Hauptschulabschluss · Mittlere Reife · Mittlerer Schulabschluss · Benötigter Schulabschluss

What the employer wants shown. Proof that you finished school, usually to a named level. For dual training this is the company's own criterion, not German law.

    Evidence the tool offers

    • I finished school and I have the certificate
    • I finished school and the certificate is in another language
    • I am still at school and will finish before the training starts
    • I have a higher qualification, such as a diploma or a degree
    • Something else you have done, written in your own words
    • Nothing yet, which is a real answer with its own next action

    In the cover letter

2025 habe ich in Istanbul die Schule abgeschlossen.

In 2025 I finished school in Istanbul. Swap the year and the place for your own.

    From the cover-letter guide

    At the interview

Ich habe im Juni die Schule abgeschlossen.

I finished school in June. Swap the month for your own.

    From the interview guide

If you have nothing yet. Name the certificate you will have and the month you will have it, instead of leaving the line unanswered. German law sets no school-leaving qualification for dual training in a company: every company decides its own criterion, and many ask for an intermediate certificate. Whether a certificate from another country counts as an equivalent German one is decided by the certificate-recognition body of the federal state, and that process normally needs a German address or a confirmed training place first. The anabin database names the body.

A sentence that says it truthfully

Meinen Schulabschluss mache ich im [Monat] [Jahr].

I will finish school in [month] [year].

New here, not yet reviewed by a German teacher

School-based training is the exception: there the qualification must be completed and officially recognised.

    German at a stated level

Ausreichende Deutschkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift · Gute Deutschkenntnisse · Deutsch mindestens B1

What the employer wants shown. Enough German to follow the work, the vocational school and the exams, which are held in German.

    Evidence the tool offers

    • I have a certificate at the level the advert asks for
    • I have a certificate at a lower level and I am still learning
    • I have booked the exam and I know the date
    • I am in a course now but have no certificate yet
    • I learned German at school or at work and have no certificate
    • Something else you have done, written in your own words
    • Nothing yet, which is a real answer with its own next action

    In the cover letter

Im Juli habe ich das Zertifikat Deutsch B1 bestanden und lerne weiter.

In July I passed the Deutsch B1 certificate and I am still learning. Swap the month and the certificate for your own. The date and the certificate name are what make it checkable.

    From the cover-letter guide

    At the interview

Könnten Sie bitte etwas langsamer sprechen?

Could you please speak a little more slowly? At the interview your German is shown, not claimed. Asking for a repeat is a normal, competent move, and it beats guessing an answer.

    From the interview guide

If you have nothing yet. Say the level you are at now and when you sit the exam. Make it in Germany states that as a rule you should be able to evidence German at a minimum level of B1, and the higher the level the easier the training content becomes. Do not write a level you cannot speak: the interview is in German and will show the difference.

A sentence that says it truthfully

Zurzeit besuche ich einen Deutschkurs auf Niveau [B1].

At the moment I am attending a German course at level [B1].

New here, not yet reviewed by a German teacher

Interest in this occupation and this employer

Interesse am Beruf · Motivation · Lernbereitschaft · Interesse an praktischer Tätigkeit

What the employer wants shown. One concrete reason you chose this occupation, and one concrete thing about this employer. A sentence that would fit any company answers nothing.

    Evidence the tool offers

    • A task named in the advert that I want to learn
    • Something I read on the employer's own website
    • A taster day, a school placement or a visit in this field
    • Someone I know who does this job and told me about it
    • The official occupation profile, which I have read
    • Something else you have done, written in your own words
    • Nothing yet, which is a real answer with its own next action

    In the cover letter

Auf Ihrer Website habe ich gesehen, dass Sie Ersatzteile für Werkstätten in ganz Europa lagern und versenden. Genau in diesem Bereich möchte ich meine Ausbildung machen.

On your website I saw that you store and ship spare parts for workshops across Europe. That is exactly the field I want to train in. Swap the detail for the one you found on this employer's site.

    From the cover-letter guide

    At the interview

Bei Ihnen kann ich [Aufgabe] lernen. Das interessiert mich, weil …

With you, I can learn [task]. That interests me because …

    From the interview guide

If you have nothing yet. If nothing about this employer interests you, that is information about the application, not a sentence to invent. Spend ten minutes on their website and on the official occupation profile first. The Federal Employment Agency asks applicants to research reasons why this company in particular is interesting, and the interviewer will ask you to expand whatever you write.

    Practical experience or an internship

Erste Erfahrung · Praktikum von Vorteil · Praktische Erfahrung

What the employer wants shown. Tasks you have carried out, described as tasks. A job title on its own tells the reader nothing.

    Evidence the tool offers

    • An internship or placement in this field
    • An internship or placement in another field
    • A part-time or holiday job
    • Regular help in a family business
    • Volunteering or unpaid work
    • A school project with real tasks and a deadline
    • Something else you have done, written in your own words
    • Nothing yet, which is a real answer with its own next action

    In the cover letter

Dort habe ich Lieferungen ausgepackt, die Menge mit dem Lieferschein verglichen und die Waren in die Regale einsortiert.

There I unpacked deliveries, compared the quantity with the delivery note and sorted the goods onto the shelves. Swap the three tasks for the ones you actually carried out.

    From the cover-letter guide

    At the interview

Ich habe zwei Wochen in einem Geschäft mitgeholfen. Ich habe Waren sortiert und Preisschilder geprüft. Bei Fragen habe ich eine Mitarbeiterin um Hilfe gebeten.

I helped in a shop for two weeks. I sorted goods and checked price labels. When I had questions, I asked a staff member for help. Replace every detail with your own.

    From the interview guide

If you have nothing yet. Say plainly that you have not done an internship in this field, then name a task from somewhere else and say what you want to learn in the company. Do not invent a job to fill the gap. If there is time before the deadline, ask the employer whether you can do a short placement first: many training companies offer exactly that.

A sentence that says it truthfully

Ich habe noch kein Praktikum in diesem Bereich gemacht. Bei einem Schulprojekt habe ich aber Aufgaben mit anderen geplant. Jetzt möchte ich die Arbeit im Betrieb kennenlernen.

I have not done an internship in this field yet. But I planned tasks with others during a school project. Now I would like to get to know the work in the company.

    From the interview guide

    Working in a team

Teamfähigkeit · Teamgeist · Zusammenarbeit im Team

What the employer wants shown. One time you worked with other people towards the same result, and what your part in it was.

    Evidence the tool offers

    • A school or course project I did with other people
    • A job or placement where I worked in a team
    • A sports team, a band, a choir or a club
    • Sharing regular duties at home or in a family business
    • Volunteering with a group
    • Something else you have done, written in your own words
    • Nothing yet, which is a real answer with its own next action

    In the cover letter

Bei [Projekt] habe ich mit anderen zusammengearbeitet.

At [project] I worked together with others. Follow it with the reviewed pattern above: Dabei habe ich gelernt, … zu …

New here, not yet reviewed by a German teacher

    At the interview

Bei [Projekt] habe ich Aufgaben mit anderen geplant.

At [project] I planned tasks with others.

New here, not yet reviewed by a German teacher

If you have nothing yet. Teamwork is not a document you can obtain, so there is nothing to fetch. What you can do is stop looking for a job and look for any group task you have taken part in, including at home, at a place of worship or in a club. If there is genuinely none, say what you have done alone and say you want to learn the team side. Claiming it without an example is the thing to avoid, because the next question is always for the example.

    Reliability and taking responsibility

    Zuverlässigkeit · Pünktlichkeit · Verantwortungsbewusstsein

What the employer wants shown. A commitment you kept over time, with the detail that proves you kept it.

    Evidence the tool offers

    • A regular shift or job I turned up to over months
    • A caring duty at home I am responsible for
    • Training, classes or rehearsals I attend on a fixed schedule
    • A task nobody checked, such as opening, closing or handling money
    • A school report or reference that mentions my attendance
    • Something else you have done, written in your own words
    • Nothing yet, which is a real answer with its own next action

    In the cover letter

Zwei Jahre lang habe ich samstags im Lager eines Elektrogeschäfts geholfen.

For two years I helped on Saturdays in the warehouse of an electrical goods shop. Swap the period, the day and the place for your own. The schedule is the evidence, not the word reliable.

    From the cover-letter guide

    At the interview

Ich bin zuverlässig. In meinem Nebenjob habe ich jeden Samstag den Verkaufsstand vorbereitet. Ich war immer rechtzeitig fertig, bevor die ersten Kunden kamen.

I am reliable. In my part-time job, I prepared the sales stall every Saturday. I was always ready before the first customers arrived. Replace every detail with your own.

    From the interview guide

If you have nothing yet. There is no certificate for reliability, and writing the word on its own is the weakest line in any application. Look for something you have kept up without being reminded, however small, and describe the schedule rather than the virtue. A school report that mentions attendance is usable evidence, and you probably already have one.

    Care and accurate work

Sorgfalt · Genaues Arbeiten · Organisationsgeschick

What the employer wants shown. A task where being wrong would have cost something, and how you checked your work.

    Evidence the tool offers

    • Counting, measuring or checking something against a list or document
    • Handling money, a till or an invoice
    • Keeping records, files or a timetable in order
    • Work where a mistake spoils the piece, such as cooking, sewing or repairs
    • A method I use to check my own work before I finish
    • Something else you have done, written in your own words
    • Nothing yet, which is a real answer with its own next action

    In the cover letter

Dabei habe ich gelernt, genau zu arbeiten und Ordnung zu halten.

That taught me to work accurately and keep things in order. Put the task that taught you in the sentence before it.

    From the cover-letter guide

    At the interview

Ich habe Waren sortiert und Preisschilder geprüft.

I sorted goods and checked price labels.

    From the interview guide

If you have nothing yet. Answer with the habit rather than the history. If you check a list before you leave the shop, or read a message twice before sending it, that is the checkable thing to describe. The interview follow-up is usually about a mistake, so have one small real example ready and say what you changed afterwards.

A sentence that says it truthfully

Seitdem prüfe ich die Liste, bevor ich zur Kasse gehe.

Since then, I check the list before going to the checkout. Replace the example with your own.

    From the interview guide

    Contact with customers or patients

Freude am Kundenkontakt · Service- und Kundenorientierung · Kommunikationsfähigkeit · Einfühlungsvermögen

What the employer wants shown. A situation where you dealt with people you did not know, and what you actually did for them.

    Evidence the tool offers

    • Serving in a shop, market, café or restaurant
    • Serving customers in a family business
    • Answering calls, messages or questions for someone else
    • Helping patients, older people, children or guests
    • A stall, a tour or a desk at a school or community event
    • Something else you have done, written in your own words
    • Nothing yet, which is a real answer with its own next action

    In the cover letter

Bei unserem Schulfest habe ich am Verkaufsstand geholfen.

I helped at the sales stall during our school fair. Swap the event and the task for your own.

    From the interview guide

    At the interview

Ich möchte lernen, wie man Kunden gut berät. Bei unserem Schulfest habe ich am Verkaufsstand geholfen. Mir hat gefallen, Fragen zu beantworten und gemeinsam mit anderen zu arbeiten.

I want to learn how to advise customers well. I helped at a sales stall during our school fair. I enjoyed answering questions and working with others. Replace every detail with your own.

    From the interview guide

If you have nothing yet. Say what you want to learn instead of claiming you already enjoy it. This is also the requirement most worth fixing before the next application: a few days behind any counter gives you a real answer, and it is the kind of task a placement can supply quickly.

    Computer or software skills

    PC-Kenntnisse · MS-Office-Kenntnisse · Umgang mit dem Warenwirtschaftssystem · EDV-Kenntnisse

What the employer wants shown. Which program, and what you did in it. Naming the program the advert names is what the reader is checking.

    Evidence the tool offers

    • I have used the program the advert names
    • I have used a different program that does the same job
    • I write documents, spreadsheets or presentations for school or work
    • I completed a computer course and have the certificate
    • I taught myself and can show what I made
    • Something else you have done, written in your own words
    • Nothing yet, which is a real answer with its own next action

    In the cover letter

Mit [Programm] arbeite ich seit [Zeit].

I have worked with [program] for [time]. Add one sentence saying what you did in it.

New here, not yet reviewed by a German teacher

    At the interview

    Ich kann gut …

I am good at …, then name the program and describe one thing you did in it.

    From the interview guide

If you have nothing yet. Name the program, say you have not used it, and name the nearest thing you have used. That is one sentence and it survives the interview. Hiding it does not, because the first practical week finds out.

A sentence that says it truthfully

Damit habe ich noch keine Erfahrung. Neue Programme lerne ich aber schnell.

I have no experience with that yet. But I learn new programs quickly.

    From the cover-letter guide

    Physical work, standing or lifting

Belastbarkeit · Körperliche Belastbarkeit · Freude an praktischer Arbeit

What the employer wants shown. That you know what the working day is physically like and have done something comparable.

    Evidence the tool offers

    • A job where I was on my feet for hours
    • Carrying, loading or moving goods
    • Farm, building, garden or other outdoor work
    • Helping people move, wash or get up
    • Regular sport or physical training
    • Something else you have done, written in your own words
    • Nothing yet, which is a real answer with its own next action

    In the cover letter

Ich bin körperliche Arbeit gewohnt. [Zeitraum] habe ich [Aufgabe] gemacht.

I am used to physical work. For [period] I did [task].

New here, not yet reviewed by a German teacher

    At the interview

Bei [Tätigkeit] stehe ich mehrere Stunden.

During [activity] I stand for several hours.

New here, not yet reviewed by a German teacher

If you have nothing yet. Ask the employer what the day is actually like before you promise anything, and use the interview to ask it. If you have a health condition that affects the work, the interview with the company is where that belongs, not the letter.

A sentence that says it truthfully

Welche Aufgaben übernehme ich am Anfang?

What tasks will I take on at the beginning? Ask this at the interview.

    From the interview guide

If you are under 18 when you start, the Youth Employment Protection Act requires a doctor's examination within the last fourteen months, and the employer must hold that doctor's certificate before you may be employed. That is a document to arrange, not a reason to worry.

Shift, weekend or early and late work

Bereitschaft zur Schichtarbeit · Wochenendarbeit · Flexible Arbeitszeiten

What the employer wants shown. Whether you can actually be there at those hours, including the journey.

    Evidence the tool offers

    • I have worked shifts, weekends or early mornings before
    • I have checked how I would travel at those times
    • Nothing at home stops me working at those times
    • I live close enough to get there outside normal hours
    • Something else you have done, written in your own words
    • Nothing yet, which is a real answer with its own next action

    In the cover letter

    Zur Schichtarbeit bin ich bereit.

I am ready to work shifts.

New here, not yet reviewed by a German teacher

    At the interview

Wie wechseln sich die Arbeit im Betrieb und die Berufsschule ab?

How will company work and vocational school alternate? Ask this at the interview, then ask which shifts apply in the first year.

    From the interview guide

If you have nothing yet. Do not promise hours you cannot work. Say which times you can do and ask what the shift pattern is in the first year. An applicant who agrees to everything and then cannot come is a worse outcome for both sides than one honest sentence now.

If you are under 18, the Youth Employment Protection Act limits employment to the hours between 06:00 and 20:00. Applicants over 16 may work later in named cases, including until 22:00 in hospitality and until 23:00 in multi-shift operations. Check the rule before you agree to a night shift the law does not allow.

    A driving licence

Führerschein Klasse B · Fahrerlaubnis · Führerschein von Vorteil

What the employer wants shown. Whether you can drive, and from when. Some adverts want it on day one and some by the end of the training.

    Evidence the tool offers

    • I hold a licence issued in Germany, the EU, Liechtenstein, Norway or Iceland
    • I hold a licence issued in another country
    • I have started lessons at a driving school
    • I will be old enough to take the test during the training
    • Something else you have done, written in your own words
    • Nothing yet, which is a real answer with its own next action

    In the cover letter

Einen Führerschein der Klasse B habe ich seit [Jahr].

I have held a category B driving licence since [year].

New here, not yet reviewed by a German teacher

    At the interview

Darf ich fragen, ob ich den Führerschein zu Beginn oder am Ende brauche?

May I ask whether I need the driving licence at the start or by the end? That one question decides whether this line blocks your application.

New here, not yet reviewed by a German teacher

If you have nothing yet. Ask the employer whether the licence is needed at the start or by the end of the training. That one question decides whether this line is a blocker. If your licence comes from outside the EU, EEA and the named countries, the official rule is that you may drive on it for six months from the day you register your address in Germany, an official German translation is needed for almost every country of origin, and a German licence is required after that. Whether you have to sit another test depends on the issuing country, and your local Fahrerlaubnisbehörde decides.

A sentence that says it truthfully

Einen Führerschein habe ich noch nicht. Ich möchte ihn während der Ausbildung machen.

I do not have a driving licence yet. I would like to get it during the training.

New here, not yet reviewed by a German teacher

A licence from the EU, Liechtenstein, Norway or Iceland is valid in Germany without restrictions and needs no exchange. A licence from anywhere else may be used for six months from the day you register your address in Germany, needs an official German translation for almost every country of origin, and has to be replaced by a German one after that. Whether you must sit another test depends on the issuing country, and the local Fahrerlaubnisbehörde decides.

A line the list does not cover

The tool does not know this requirement, so it gives you the two sentence moves that work for any of them. Put your own task in the brackets.

If you have nothing yet. Name the requirement, say in one sentence that you do not meet it yet, and say what you will do. A named gap is a question at the interview. A hidden one is a surprise in the first week.

A sentence that says it truthfully

Damit habe ich noch keine Erfahrung.

I have no experience with that yet. Put the requirement in the sentence before it, using the quoting pattern above.

    From the cover-letter guide

Which German has been reviewed, and which has not

Twenty-three of the sentence patterns on this page are lifted word for word from the two guides this site already publishes, so they have been through the same review as those pages. Eleven were written for this tool and are labelled New here, not yet reviewed by a German teacher wherever they appear. Treat those ten as drafts: they are short and simple, but a German teacher has not signed them off. Whichever pattern you use, the finished letter still needs a German speaker to read it, which is what both the Federal Employment Agency and Make it in Germany ask for.

    Where the rules come from

The way to answer a requirement, and the warning about writing a letter you cannot defend, are from the Federal Employment Agency's page on writing the cover letter, with the surrounding process on its Ausbildung application page, its list of application documents and its interview preparation page. The school-qualification and language statements are from Make it in Germany's requirements for vocational training, with recognition handled through anabin and the official recognition portal, and the language side also covered by the Federal Employment Agency's page on German language skills. Occupation profiles are in BERUFENET.

Two rules apply only to applicants under 18 and change what you may honestly promise. Under the Youth Employment Protection Act a young person needs a doctor's examination within the last fourteen months, with the employer holding the certificate, before they may be employed. The same Act limits employment to the hours between 06:00 and 20:00, with named later hours for those over 16, including until 22:00 in hospitality and until 23:00 in multi-shift operations. Read the rule before you agree to a shift pattern. Driving on a foreign licence in Germany follows a rule of its own: a licence from the EU, Liechtenstein, Norway or Iceland is valid in Germany without restrictions, and a licence from anywhere else is usable for six months from the day you register your address, with an official German translation needed for almost every country of origin.

If you do not have an advert yet, the Federal Employment Agency's training-place search, Make it in Germany's guidance on finding one and its vocational-training listings are the three official starting points.

    Nothing is stored

The lines you copy from the advert, the evidence you pick and anything you write about yourself live in this browser tab only. They are not saved, not sent anywhere, not put in the address bar and not included in analytics. Closing the tab ends the list for good, so copy it into your draft before you leave.

    Once the list is done

Write the letter with the cover-letter guide, which has the complete German model and the paragraph pattern for a requirement you do not meet. Then rehearse the same claims aloud with the interview guide, and check every line against your German CV.

Keep track of what you sent where with the application tracker. For the wider route, the full Ausbildung guide puts the application in order, the preparation self-check returns what to verify next, and the timeline planner works backwards from your intended start.

If the language line is the one you cannot answer, the B1 guide separates the visa rule from what employers and vocational schools expect, the exam guide compares the three B1 exams, and the practice-test guide shows how to sit a free official one. Still choosing an occupation? The occupation comparer puts a few official training fields side by side.
